If you’re like me and are interested in local designers and artists, you must attend The Rage’s All-Day 5th Anniversary Sale and Party this Saturday May 29 from 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at 2 Kensington Ave.
The Rage offers clothing, accessories and artwork from local designers and artists, many of which are self-taught or are fashion students. All designs are environmental and use new and recycled materials. The Rage had started small with just 20 designers, artists and crafters and has grown into a bustling boutique now carrying products from over 100 different designers and artists.
So if you’re like me and tired of the mall, I suggest taking a trip to Kensington Market and experience The Rage for yourself. Look at it this way… Hugo Boss, Prada and Gucci don’t need any more money. But you know who could use your help? Local artists. Try something new. You just might end up finding your new favourite designer.
The Raging Beliefs
THE RAGE 10 COMMANDMENTS:
1. The best locally produced streetwear in Toronto
2. Support and exposure for unknown designers, artists, musicians, performers…
3. Handmade, one-of-a-kind
4. Environmental consciousness
5. Exploration and expansion of self-definition
7. Positive energy
8. Unquenchable creativity
9. Social Inclusiveness
10. Steadfast love and devotion to our ideals
The Rage advocates conscientious consumer behaviour and habits. Buying local is imperative to keeping community connected, thriving and autonomous. The repercussions of supporting huge corporates are numerous: unacceptable labour practices, lax product standards and strain on natural resources due to large-scale production are a few. Large companies foster homogenous identity, whereas local commercial activity IS the identity.
Artists at The Rage create out of necessity to create, from our surroundings, for our surroundings.
If you’re going to spend, spend it on the underground; support operations that work continually to make things better.
