Falling for Autumn

Fall Trends Guide

Autumn is just around the corner and fall fashion trends have already arrived. Check out 40 finds to wear this season.

 Grey Days Ahead

 The Trend: Grey/Camel
Seen At:
Rudsak fall winter collection, Chloe and Michael Kors

Gloomy days are definitely ahead, but we aren’t referring to the weather. This season, fall style is all about muted tones; anything grey or camel will do (especially a camel jacket). Transition into the season with a pair of charcoal tweed shorts or a grey dress and when the temperature drops even further, pick up a camel coat (in wool or leather) and a great pair of thick trousers.

1: Wool-Flannel Cropped Pants, $440. 2: Gap Silky Ruffle Dress, $80. 3: Anthropologie Motorcycle Jacket, $318. 4: Mackage Bessie Coat, $479. 5: Sanctuary Shorts, $96.

Spots Appeal
The Trend: Leopard Prints
Seen At:
Joe Fresh fall fashion show & Dries Van Noten

However you choose to rock fall’s spot-on trend for fall, leopard print shoes, bags, and jackets are guaranteed to shake up a case of the wardrobe blahs (just make sure not to wear everything all at once).

1: ASOS animal print pencil skirt, US $51. 2: Smythe leopard print blouson, $295. 3: Banana Republic leopard print haircalf belt, $95. 4: Forever 21 Fancy Footwork flats, $22. 5: Joe Fresh leopard print jacket, $89.

Giddy Up
The Trend: Equestrian Apparel
Seen At:
Christian Dior

Betty Draper’s stylish turn at the stables made us want to sign up for riding lessons — stat.  For those who are a little horse-shy, try dipping your feet into this style with a pair of knee-high equestrian riding boots and work your way up to include cropped blazers, crisp white shirts and jodhpurs.

1: Banana Republic jodhpur legging, $95. 2: Smart Set 2-button blazer, $65. 3: Hermès puzzle silk twill scarf, $420. 4: Browns Bravo boots, $298. 5: Ralph Lauren Blue Label ruffled blouse, $264.

Wild Child

The Trend: Chunky Knits & Faux Fur
Seen At:
Preloved & Vawk by Sunny Fong Forget frumpy Cosby-esque getups; this season’s nubby knits come in patchwork knitted dresses and fitted boyfriend-style sweaters, while the tufts of fur seen on everything from faux fur coats to vests and scarves have us itching to hit the slopes.

 1: French Connection t-rushes and reeds shrug, $198. 2: Lundstrom fur trimmed jacket, $599. 3: J.Crew Drea dress, US $98. 4: Dace Kent dress, $180. 5: H&M boyfriend sweater, $60.

Hourglass Style

 The Trend: ‘50s Silhouette
Seen at:
Pink Tartan, Attitude by Sears

This season, say so long to shapeless cuts and menswear and welcome a curvy, feminine 1950 fashion silhouette back into your wardrobe. Whether donning a classic pencil skirt at the office, an A-line skirted dress that cinches at the waist (giving you that famous Marilyn Monroe figure), or a sophisticated belted trench, you’ll always look chic, no matter the occasion.

1: J. Crew Margeaux dress, US $225. 2: Banana Republic Agenda stretch pencil skirt, $74. 3: GAP Boy fit pants, $70. 4: Thieves Azalea top, $98. 5: H&M trench coat, $129.

In the Print

 The Trend: Prints
Seen at:
Zoran Dobric, Jules Power Just because the temperature is dropping, doesn’t mean your wardrobe has to too. Breathe some life into your style with eye-catching prints this fall. Whether geometric or floral, colourful or black and white, printed dresses and printed tops are a sure-fire way to make an outfit pop. If you really want to standout, try mixing and matching. Like good company, when it comes to prints, the more the merrier.

1: Tucker printed silk crepe de Chine blouse, US $280. 2: French Connection teardrop jersey, $58. 3: Lily and Jae Silk secret skirt, $164. 4: Dace Albert dress, $298. 5: Diane Von Furstenburg Pialla dress, US $345.

An easy way to update your look for a new season is with fashionable fall accessories. We’re loving the look of chains (on everything from necklaces to purses) and mini-bags, which are taking a huge weight off our shoulders. To add something small but with big impact, pick up a circle scarf or something shearling. Swap out your coat for a cape to add a little more drama to your look.

1: Coach Chain necklace, $128. 2: Sears Attitude Circle Scarf, $30. 3: H&M Shearling Coat, $199. 4: Forever 21 Bag, $28. 5: Furi Cape, $500.

While fall shoes may come at the bottom of our outfits, they are definitely at the top of our shopping lists. Some styles may be recognized from past seasons, but are sticking around for fall 2010. If you haven’t already, pick up a pair of motorcycle boots, clogs or brogues. Add in some laces and cut-outs, and you’ll be set for the season.

1: Geox Motorcycle Boots, $325. 2: KORS Michael Kors Clogs, $271. 3: Bloch shoes, $210. 4: Fornili Lace-ups, $90. 5: Browns ID & JC, $168.

These looks should make you forget all about summer.
